Why don't you have $2/month plans?

You get what you pay for. Our services are customized and reliable. All of our accounts are on RAID1 or RAID5 hard drives, which gives you the reliability you need for your website.

We don't want to waste our time and yours with cheap packages. However, we do have a blog-only (LifeType) package available for $5/month.

Why don't you use cpanel, plesk, or ensim?

The reason we got into this business is we like administrating machines, and don't need fancy GUI tools to do our job for us. We do use usermin, to let our customers manage their own accounts, but cpanel, et al. make it hard to provide the specialized accounts that we provide.

Can I have my own dedicated server?

Yes. There are various options depending on if you want to buy, lease to own, or just rent the server. We encourage Debian Linux, and run the "testing" version, which provides up-to-date applications and security patches (as opposed to the "stable" version), yet provides stability (as opposed to the "unstable" version).

However, we can accommodate other preferences. Contact us for details.

If you are interested, we can implement user mode linux which may be a cheaper alternative depending on your needs.

How do the SSL certificates work?

There are three ways to implement ssl certificates that are included with all plans.
1. Use a self-signed certificate.
2. Use a limedaley certificate on your own domain.
3. Use a limedaley certificate on the limedaley domain. (https://limedaley.com/your_custom_name) This option is nice because there will be no warnings from your customers' browsers.

If you wish to avoid all of the above, you can buy a certificate for your own domain, which we can install for you.

Can I accept credit card payments on my website?

We don't offer automatic credit card charging, but some customers accept credit cards securely with SSL, and then manually charge the cards with their own merchant accounts.

PayPal provides APIs (code) to charge credit cards via your website.

Dynamic DNS

What is dynamic DNS, and why would I want it?
If you want to be able to access your computer from outside your home, (such as accessing your home computer from your workplace, or running a web or game server) but your ISP doesn't give you a static IP address, you need dynamic DNS.

There are many providers who offer dynamic dns for certain pre-defined domains. I have used DynDNS.org for a long time.

What Lime Daley can offer you is dynamic dns for any domain name, provided we are doing all of your DNS hosting. If you sign up for dynamic hosting, you will receive a password for updating your machine's ip address. You simply use a provided script that can automatically run whenever your ip address changes, and your machine will now be accessible with your domain name.

Time-to-live (TTL) can be set as low as 5 seconds.

What hosting options do you have?

Most of our customers choose shared hosting because it is the cheapest option, and they can configure their account with the Administration page.

Some choose a virtually dedicated server, due to needing root access, or some custom version of apache, mysql, php, webgui, etc.

Lastly, some customer choose a fully dedicated system, so they can have full reign of the server and don't want to share any bandwidth or cpu usage with other customers.

We are happy to host any of the above.

What payment options does Lime Daley accept?

Lime Daley accepts the following payment methods:
  • Business or personal checks
  • Purchase orders with 30 day terms
  • Credit cards (M/C, Visa, Amex, Discover) via Paypal
  • Paypal account
  • International wire transfers (US$20 fee)

Tell me more about your WebGUI hosting.

We offer WebGUI 7.x hosting combined with a regular hosting package. You can write and use your own custom macros, or contract Lime Daley to write them for you. All macros must be validated before activated on your site.

In addition to the regular hosting fees, WebGUI requires a custom setup fee, depending on whether you are migrating from an existing WebGUI site or starting from scratch. Contact us for details and custom pricing.

I assume that as a small company, you react slowly and often aren't available?

Not at all. Lime Daley offers round the clock support for all urgent requests. When submitting a ticket via our online support system, you will be asked whether the request is urgent or not. If the request is truly urgent, ie. your site is malfunctioning, or some other techical problem, please make use of the "urgent" status and provide a callback number and someone will be paged immediately and return your call.

Response time for non-urgent requests currently averages 10 minutes during normal business hours, 60 minutes during extended business hours, and within 12 hours for everything else.

Lime Daley has 24 hour access to the server facilities should the need arise.

Developers Corner: Can I manage my email accounts through a remote API?

Yes. We offer the ability to remotely manage your email aliases and accounts via a simple HTTP/HTTPS protocol, which allows you to develop your own applications and devices and be able to interact with our servers.

Some customers of ours use this to offer email to all of their customers using mobile devices. Their customers can manipulate their accounts through simple GUIs on the mobile device, and technical support can monitor and configure the customers' access through their own web site.

We have a protocol developed, but we can also extend it to meet your needs. Contact us for more technical information regarding this feature.

Colocation: I already have my own server, can I host it with you?

Yes, we offer managed and unmanaged colocation.

For unmanaged colocation, you can start with us, and as your usage grows, you can expand as much as you need to, and it is a seamless transition if you want to purchase rack space directly from our provider, but we can help you get started.

For managed colocation, Lime Daley has 10 years of experience in administering various Windows and Linux machines, and has enough skill and knowledge at our disposal to keep your server running and secure.

If you are not sure whether owning your own machine is the right thing for you, we also have rent-to-own programs available.

Custom Application Hosting

Lime Daley is the most customizable web host you will find.  We specialize in hosting applications that you can't find elsewhere.

Our customers currently have managed (ie. we take care of the installation and upgrades) hosted applications such as (this isn't an exhaustive list) GnuCash, Request Tracker (RT), WebGUI, ZenCart, LifeType, Wordpress, Joomla, and customized/managed plugins and solutions for all of the above.

Secure Document Hosting

Do you need access to important medical and legal documents while away from home?  Do you wish that there was a secure way to have those documents easily retrievable no matter where you are?  Lime Daley's secure document hosting service will enable you to be able to upload documents safely, categorize them as appropriate, and then retrieve them later with a PIN number per category. (continue)
